Portal to Portals---The Beginning:Chapter 2

The quintet swiveled through the lab until they reached the room that Dr. Malachi had pointed out.
"What do you think is inside?" asked Stacy
"I don't know," admitted James, "but we can't find out until we break this code!"
Next to the door was a computer that looked like a calculator, and it was showing this message:

                                                                              adgj

Underneath was a keyboard of numbers and special additions, like @ or #.
"Stand back, everyone!" Mark yelled, as he pushed everyone out of the way. There were a lot of "hmm,"'s and "okay,"'s coming from Mark.
Then, a minute later, Mark triumphantly marched through the door.
"What was the solution?" asked Kanm.
Here, I'll give you something, Mark thought. I've told you as many times as I can remember to not ask about my code-breaking skills!
"Imagine a home phone---" he said drowsily. He waved his eyes in front of his face and...

                                         SNAP!
     Kanm was frozen.
"You know how much I hate you hypnotizing someone," complained James, "ESPECIALLY one of our team!"
Mark hesitated. "For 1, it's natural hypnotization. 2, I said I would if he wouldn't stop asking me about my special ability!"
"Well, I am the only person who knows how to wake him up!" yelled Maci.
     "Maci, Comet-light." ordered James.
Maci threw her hands in front of her and out of her palms came bright flashes of lights and they hit Kanm.
"Whaaaa?" He snapped back into position. "What did I miss? What did I miss? I tell you. TELL ME WHAT I MISSED!?!?"
"You missed nothing," Maci assured Kanm. "Now come on let's go into the---"
     "---computer room?"
The room was completely empty, except for the back of the room, where there was a computer.
"We got gypped!" James said, turning on the computer. "We've been..."
"Good day," replied the computer. "Would you like access to my data?"
     They were speechless.
"Yes, please!" they said, clicking "yes" on the screen.
"Are you sure? You will be trapped."
"Is this a joke?" they said. "We'll be trapped in our fun, yes!" They clicked "yes" again.
A laser zapped out and scanned them. Then a green light started to glow.
"Are you sure about this?" asked Mark, as the light grew brighter. "But what if he meant---"
The light faded. The friends disappeared. The bustling lab had---for a moment---been turned into a soundless warehouse.
