They had gone...
...to another universe.
"Where are we?" asked Stacy. The world around them had turned into a big swirl of black, purple, and gray. They looked under them, only to find themselves floating in the darkness. Only Kanm was not panicking like the others. I wonder why he's not like the rest of us, James thought. And, come to think of it, he's ALWAYS been like that, acting---different.
"Hello," boomed a faint voice. The quintet turned in the direction of the sound, to meet another floating person, a man with a staff.
"Welcome, travelers, to the Vault, in the city of Nastica," the man said. "I am the elder of this very ordinary place and check in on the visitors that even GET here. My name is Elder Charcol, and how DID you find the portal?"
"What portal?" asked Maci.
"If you didn't know if this was the portal---" trailed the elder, "---then why did you use it? After all, you can't go back through the computer-thingy."
Suddenly, James, Mark, Stacy, Maci and even Kanm realized that they had accidentally triggered the portal disguised as a computer and they got transported to whatever this world was.
"The most simple way is to be able to know the Code, which, I'm guessing, you don't," Elder Charcol sighed. "Except, maybe for you, Kanm." Kanm gave him a wink. Why is that man acting weird around Kanm? James thought. Maybe he and Elder Chocolate have something they're hiding. He kept this thought to himself and pondered about what it could be. And while Kanm was chatting to Elder Charcol, and James was thinking about them, the rest of the gang were freaking out.
"We'll never get home now!" screamed Maci.
"I should have broke into the computer's gigabyte memory and I could have seen this happen!" said Mark sadly.
"Let's get out of here!" yelled Stacy.
"Calm down, lads," he whispered. "There is another way out. More dangerous, but a way to get out."
They calmed down, listening like it was the most important thing in the world, which it was.
"To find the Pure Heart."
"But how do you get it?" asked Maci.
"That you will have to find out, but I'll tell you the basics."
"The Pure Heart was hidden a long time ago by the Sorcerers. It was locked and guarded by the Warriors of the Pure Heart. Then when the evil Keeper took control of the city, he also had control of the Pure Heart. He sent out his magicians to create the most complex maze to guard the Heart---The Maze of Portals.
"The rules are simple---there is no time limit, but there are portals hidden in each area that need a code. Your job is to find the right code that goes with the right portal. Each right code is guarded by a Warrior. You will know if you found a Warrior if it has a diamond shape under its chin. You may exit a battle by paying an amount of that world's currency. To get money is to destroy enemies lurking around the city(different characters have different amount of green-stuff in their pockets) and to work and earn money. You may have some of ALL the worlds' currency if you want to go back to the last world{I don't know why}. And each Heart is a code. You break that code, then enter it in to the right portal, and you move to the next city. If you enter the right code to the wrong portal, it will transport you back to the front of the world. There are 10 worlds, and once you grab hold of the Pure Heart, it will transport you to my world. There I will take you back to the mainland. Now, I wish you luck. I will pop up now and then in sticky situations."
The team was frozen. "But how do you defeat them?" asked Maci.
"That, too, you will need to find out," smiled Elder Charcol.
Then, like magic, he was wisped away into the darkness.
The friends were starstruck. "Sooooooo...what do we do?" she asked.
As soon as she spoke the last syllable, they, too, were wisped away.
