They turned 'round, and they did see the strange monster looming over them.
And they knew what that meant.
It was time for the first Battle of the Heart.
They tried to turn back, but a coating of metal covered the entrance, but, thankfully, it formed a large space that protected them from the darkness.
"This is getting weird," shivered James, but then he stood back up grandly. "Are you still with me?"
"You bet!" chorused the four others.
Then they charged at the 100-foot-monster, with it growling in anticipation.
First, Maci tried ramming into the beast's leg. Of course, it didn't work.
"Let me give it a try," said James.
He marched up to the beast and grasped his leg.
The monster groaned.
James barely, just barely, lifted the monster of the floor with all his might!
Then he threw the monster against the wall, making a giant "THUD!"
"Oooooowwwwwie!" he cried. "My arms hurt. I don't think I'll be useful in this battle until my sore arm heals."
"But that's not our only problem!" informed Kanm. They saw the monster stumbling over, trying to get up. But when he did, needle-sharp spines ran all around his body, and gave an ear-piercing roar.
"I don't think you'll be useful even if your arm WAS healed," Mark said.
Then something unexpected happened. He swung his spine-covered tail and the needles came flying out of his flesh!
They managed to dodge them, while Kanm stepped back. But then, they grew tired, and collapsed in loss of energy.
Kanm saw this, too. He watched as the Warrior slowly stomped his way toward his friends.
I can't let them know, he thought. But is my secret better then my friends? After all, Stacy is a tattle-tale.
But then, in the nick of time, he decided what was more important.
His friends.
He shot some fireballs at his opponent's body.
The Warrior shrieked with pain as he turned in the direction of Kanm.
"What happened?" asked a shocked Mark.
And they were just about to find out.
The Warrior shot a swarm of spines at Kanm. But he showed no fear. He waved his hands and froze them in midair.
Angry and disappointed, the Warrior took of his tail, which had grown a club at the tip of it, and swung it around his head like a lasso.
Still, Kanm beat that like taking a rattle from a baby. And to finish him off, he struck him down with some energy balls.
The friends watched in shock as the Warrior fell, dead, to the floor.
There they stood, speechless.
But before they could congratulate Kanm's success, they were wisked away like they had when they accidentally discovered the one-way portal.
